New Moon in Gemini

The seed on the belt of Wezir

Once a month the Moon turns his face from us and goes down into the dark. The ancestors did not call this absence. They called this night Psedjentyu; the conceiving dark. He is not dying. He is going down to be gathered. Let me tell you what the sky is truly doing.

Look where the dark is. Right now the whole body of Sah (Wezir) has gone out of the night sky, crossed over into the day, into the unseen. Wezir, already laid in the tomb of the sky. His belt no longer rises after dusk; it lies with the sun, in the country of the hidden. And it is into that buried body that the dark Moon now descends. Sun and Moon meet upon the belt of Sah - the three stars of his girdle - in the place no living eye can reach. The seed of this moon is not cast into open sky. It is planted inside the sealed tomb of the neter.

And he does not lie there alone. Lower still, ahead of him, Sopdet - the star of Isa herself - has also gone down, into her seventy days of purification, the long hidden labour of the Duat, climbing in secret toward the morning she will rise, split the sky, and pour the flood and the new year out behind her. We are standing in the last dark before that rising.

This is why the belt matters: Sah does not only lie in the tomb; he points. His girdle aims at the very place on the horizon where Sopdet will break the dawn. He is the Forerunner, the one the ancestors named Tepy-a Sepedet — the herald who runs out ahead of the goddess-star to cry that she is coming, while the sky is still black.

Into this hidden body comes Isa, Lady of the Throne. She walks the whole dark gathering him — limb by limb, light by light — refusing to let what is scattered stay scattered. And from the body she re-members, in the silence, she conceives Heru: the one who comes next. The conceiving dark is a womb, not an ending.

Over her gathering moves the first breath; the gate Shu and Tefnut keep, the first pair who came from the One before anything else was: the first parting, the first air, the first word ever spoken across the first distance - the Egyptian pair of Gemini.

And then the lightning falls. Loose among the Twins, it does not strike the body — it strikes the mind. It cracks the field of thought wide and bends the very road of fate, wrenching the whole axis of where you have come from and where you are going. This is the heart of it: a new moon laid on the belt of Wezir, in the last dark before the star of Isa rises, under lightning that rewrites consciousness itself. This is no quiet seeding. It is a spell cast upon the mind. The old track is being struck away and you are being turned, by the force of the whole sky, toward the place your soul has been aching to go.

And the evening star, Venus, watches it all: the Crosser, the seed of Heru not yet risen, blazing upon the lion's throne, refusing everything dull, while a patient hand reaches toward an open door of plenty.

So this is the night to go down into the sealed dark. To let yourself be gathered. To conceive the seed, and run ahead of your own rising, as Sah runs before Sopdet. What you plant in this tomb you will spend two turning years gathering back, limb by limb, until it rises whole, the way the world rises new when the star of Isa breaks the dawn announcing the flooding of the Nile.

It is of no coincidence that when I declared that I was ready to teach the original, authentic and decolonised gold my ancestors have left us in Astrology, that this new moon landed on the Orion belt itself. As if Wezir himself was saying to me, this is what you have conceived: a return to the ancient stories, ancient ways to see the skies with modern eyes. And so these are the new seeds I’m planting this new moon.

And yet we were never meant to gather alone.

Join me and the AQA circle for our New Moon Ceremony where we lay our scattered pieces down, do the work of Isa over one another, and each seed the intention of what comes next, as Wezir's limbs are gathered home.
